Many countries require only on-site training for phlebotomists. In America, qualifications vary from state to state, with a few requiring certification. Trade schools offer programs in phlebotomy, with programs lasting from four months to one year. At the very least, a phlebotomist is required to have high school diploma or GED. Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, private doctors' offices, outpatient clinics, government agencies and nursing homes.
