Before you begin negotiating for your salary, find out what the average salary range is for a person with your experience in a job like the one you are applying for in the area you will be living. You can use this information to gauge whether or not you're getting a good offer. If the offer you get is too much below the average, it should set off a red flag. Likewise, if the offer is too high, you should try to find out if there are responsibilities attached to the position that you weren't aware of. If you're pressured into stating a salary requirement before you get an offer from the company you're looking to work for, use your salary research information to give a range in the upper portion of what you know is fair.
