Very good employment prospects are expected for pharmacists, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. This is because the number of job openings expected is not to exceed the number of qualified applicants for those positions. Additionally, the numbers of the elderly population are increasing and they need more medication to treat themselves. Also, more people are seeing pharmacists at stores or pharmacies instead of getting medicine from the hospital at the time of treatment due to outpatient surgeries and decreased lengths in hospital stays. Pharmacists must have graduated from a pharmacy college and passed the state licensing exam. There may also be other tests to pass depending on which state the license will be for.
