Although one can become a certified paralegal, it is not a requirement for some employers. It is up to the discretion of the hiring attorney to decide if someone is a candidate for legal assistance. However, a college education and/or experience with legal work is preferable. Paralegals can find work with private law firms, legal departments within corporations, government agencies and various other institutions that require legal research to be conducted.
