An EMT will respond to emergency calls and must be equipped to handle a variety of situations including fractured bones, hazardous waste exposure, childbirth, and life-threatening situations. Given the broad range of knowledge an EMT must obtain, the training for the position can be quite rigorous. Specifics of the certification vary in each state, but there is a basic knowledge of medicine that is required of an EMT, as well as adherence to their states emergency protocols. Once certified, positions can be found with various hospitals. Job placement through the school that trains the EMT is a common way to find employment, but isn't necessary.
