Chemists study the properties of matter, and there are many fields of chemistry to excel in. Some positions only require a bachelor’s degree, although many fields of research ask that a chemist have a post-graduate degree, preferably a PhD. As a chemist, one will most likely be employed by an academic institution, a government laboratory, or a pharmaceutical company. In England, the term “chemist” is often referring to a pharmacist.
