Fort Wayne was known primarily as a manufacturing center throughout much of the 20th century. The city had the largest enamel wire and copper manufacturing plants in the world. Today, Fort Wayne's economy is more diversified. General Motors employs many Fort Wayne residents, as does Norfolk Southern Railway, Triple Crown Services and TransWorks. The insurance and financial sectors have also seen much growth in Fort Wayne. K&K Insurance and Brotherhood Mutual have moved their headquarters to the city. Accounting firms such as Baden, Gage and Schroeder and the Star Financial Group bank are also now based in Fort Wayne.
