Columbus is a prime example of a government and college town. The federal, state and local governments provide most of the jobs in the city. The Ohio State University is also located in Columbus. While Columbus is doing much to change its image as a "government-dominated" town, it is rather difficult since upwards of 150,000 residents are employed by the government. However, the transportation and manufacturing sectors are making their mark on Columbus. The city has three railroads and nearly 140 trucking companies. The city is a major transporter for UPS and Federal Express and moves thousands of tons of cargo each year. Manufacturing is strong in the city with car and motorcycle plants in the area, as well as textiles, processed food, aircraft and electronic plants springing up.
