While Columbus is doing much to change its image as a "government-dominated" town, it is rather difficult since upwards of 150,000 residents are employed by the government. The city is a major transporter for UPS and Federal Express and moves thousands of tons of cargo each year. Manufacturing is strong in the city with car and motorcycle plants in the area, as well as textiles, processed food, aircraft and electronic plants springing up.
