Whether it is for a book, magazine, newspaper, newsletter or Web site, it is the editor's responsibility to make sure that the final product is free of grammatical and punctuation errors. A liberal arts degree is preferable for one that is interested in an editing career. Most editors have a degree in journalism or English. Other forms of editing exist outside of the written text, such as film editing. Employers looking for editors include publishing firms, design firms, online companies and newspapers. One can also become a freelance editor and remain self-employed.
