Anchorage is a port city of Cook Inlet. The city also serves as the center hub of the Alaska Railroad. Anchorage is one of the nation's crucial defense centers and is home to two military bases, Elmendorf and Fort Richardson. Several major gas and oil companies are headquartered in Anchorage including Conoco/Phillips and Exxon/Mobile. Two major communication corporations are based in Anchorage which provide land-based telephone services, Internet access and cellular telephone services to Alaska.
