Description: RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Handles more complex pending claims involving losses up to authority granted. In accordance with established procedures, policy coverages and the Unfair Claims Practice Acts, directs investigation of claims to evaluate property/liability damages. Compiles appropriate documentation and prepares claim for disposition. 2. Ensures timely and accurate reserving. Adjusts reserve as necessary. 3. Under moderate supervision, coordinates all aspects of complex claims litigation resulting from assigned claims within their granted authority. Prepares claims for trial and may assist trial attorneys during litigation. Attends trials, arbitrations, mediation, etc., as appropriate to represent the interests of the company. 4. Reviews claims to identify fraud. 5. Initiates subrogation activity including investigation and case submission to ensure prompt and sufficient recovery of monies. 6. Notifies underwriting of questionable risks encountered to ensure risks are identified. 7. Provides technical assistance to less experienced personnel in the investigation and evaluation of claims to further the development and training of claims personnel. 8. May assist in conducting closed file reviews to determine if claims were processed in a prompt, economically and equitable manner. Identifies areas for improvement to control leakage and ensure that quality of service standards are met. 9. Keeps abreast of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and trends and experience in claim litigation to ensure compliance with the unfair claims practices act and to be consistent with prevailing practices. Qualifications: EDUCATION: BS/BA degree or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years experience as Worker's Compensation Claims Representative. May be required to be licensed in states serviced. Industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU). Thorough knowledge of worker's compensation claims investigation techniques, medical and legal aspects of claims. Knowledge of financial settlements.
