We currently have an opportunity for a Wetland/Plant Ecologist in our Morris Plains, NJ office.
With the continuous growth of our ecological consulting practice, we are seeking qualified individuals to join our successful results-oriented team.
Description: The successful candidates will support in the following areas, but not limited to: wetland delineation/ assessment, permitting, and mitigation; plant community classification and inventory, and habitat/association mapping; environmental impact analysis, land use/resource management planning, and regulatory compliance/permitting; wetland mitigation/habitat restoration design and monitoring; client-agency liaison for regulatory compliance/permitting; proposal development and project management (i.e., scope, schedule, budget, and quality), and client management.
Requirements:
• Master’s degree in applicable field (wetland science, plant ecology, environmental biology, or related biological science discipline), with strong background in wetland evaluation methodologies, plant taxonomy and vegetation classification, and wetlands and plant community related laws, regulations, and policies. Professional Wetland Scientist certification and formal training on the application of USACE wetlands delineation methodology are preferred.
• At least 5 years of professional work experience related to wetland and plant community ecology; minimum of 3 years of direct experience in environmental impact assessments and resource management/mitigation plans; regional work experience in the Northeast is essential; prior experience in private sector or natural resources/ecological consulting business, and project and client management is highly desirable.
• Technical proficiency and demonstrated experience in the following specific areas:
(1) wetland inventory, delineation (using vegetation, soils, and hydrology), and functions/values assessment;
(2) wetland restoration or mitigation planning, design, and monitoring;
(3) plant identification (familiar with botanical dichotomous keys and major angiosperm plant families) and surveys (esp. rare and special status species);
(4) vegetation inventory and mapping;
(5) environmental impact assessment and resource management/mitigation plan; and (
6) regulatory processes and permitting requirements.
Excellent field skills; demonstrable technical writing ability; good interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills; and exceptional attention to details and quality.
Strong working knowledge of the Clean Water Act (Section 404) and Rivers and Harbors Act (Section 10) requirements, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ permits for jurisdictional waters and wetlands; Endangered Species Act (Sections 7 and 10) for listed plant species; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and State equivalent (New York SEQR, California CEQA, Washington SEPA, or others) processes and documentation; region-specific standards and guidelines for wetlands and native plant communities.
