VP - Finance

 

COMPANY

 

Our client is a distribution company that employs over 500 staff in 24 locations and reports annual revenues over $450 million.

 

LOCATION

 

Eastern Iowa

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

 

Reports to the division general manager and the corporate CFO.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The VP of Finance will be responsible for managing the Company’s accounting organization including developing the financial reporting infrastructure and implementing a strong internal control environment. The VP of Finance will provide the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of all accounting-related activities. The VP of Finance will be a proactive advocate of streamlining accounting processes, and delivering timely and usable financial information to appropriate internal and external constituencies.

 

 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Accounting:

Responsible for all accounting matters and policyMaintain monthly accounting close calendars and coordinate with all locations.Coordinate annual audit with the company’s outside auditors.Provide technical accounting advice to the accounting group.Monitor company expenditures in accordance with company fiscal policy, monitor and project cash flow. Set measurable objectives and goals for the accounting staff in its support of the company’s core activities.

 

 

Financial Reporting:

Provide guidance and direction on internal and external financial reporting matters. Manage the company’s financial reporting systems and policies, amending current practices where appropriate to ensure accuracy in reporting. Close, consolidate and analyze month end and year-end company records. Present findings.Direct the financial statement review and analysis process, as well as the Company’s overall financial progress, by comparing results with approved plans and assisting with forecasts of future operating results. Responsible for all internal management reporting.

Control:

Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions by implementing new processes and systems as appropriate and monitoring controls across the company. Responsible for implementing and maintaining an adequate internal control environment exists in all critical areas and operations.Establish and maintain documentation for all accounting processes and practices to provide an accurate audit trail for all recorded entries. Develop and implement company accounting systems, policies, procedures and practices to ensure and enhance proper internal controls. Develop and lead strategic initiatives that create operational efficiencies, improve communications and decision-making, and strengthen financial reporting and controls. 

Other:

Develop and cultivate relationships with the executive leadership team.Organize the company’s annual budget process and report results versus budget. Leverage the Company’s investment in advanced information technology, specifically the financial systems that support reporting/closing, accurate forecasting and decision-making. Interpret financial results and prepare reports necessary for decision-making by the company’s Leadership Team. Prepare analysis and presentation materials as needed for the CFO including monthly stakeholders reporting.Develop and maintain appropriate monitoring and reporting systems to ensure debt compliance.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

The ideal candidate will have earned significant financial and accounting leadership experience in a retail or distribution organization with previous Big Four experience at the manager level or above a plus. Depending on company size and complexity, the finalist will either be a sitting Controller or comparable position at a $400M plus organization.

 

 

SPECIFICALLY, THE CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE

 

Several years of financial leadership at a retail or distribution company; including the management of financials and consolidated reporting for multiple locations. Experience managing growth and increasing demand for information and results. Thorough understanding of GAAP standards.Strong organization, communication, and team building skills. Demonstrated ability to drive change and continuous improvement across the finance organization and other functions. Possesses the strong intellect, sound business sense, judgment and ownership mentality that are necessary to function in a key leadership role. Ability to build relationships, marshal resources and shape decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Possesses high-energy level with the necessary drive and commitment to produce desired results. Behaves with a high sense of integrity and values. A leader who can clearly and concisely convey complex financial information in understandable terms.Strong organizational and time management abilities that allow projects and goals to be completed on time.Experience in managing employees over multiple locationsSuccessful integration of people, process and technology for acquired businesses.

 

EDUCATION

 

CPA and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting are required. Public Accounting experience and MBA is preferred.
