JOB DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY:
Provide technical, authoritative and professional support as well as effective management for all claims operations for the accomplishment of the corporation's financial, strategic and business plan objectives.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Establish and maintain appropriate staffing levels to provide high levels of customer service, but at a competitive cost
Evaluate the performance of the claim office(s) and management
Ensure appropriate quality assurance programs are in place and that they are being properly used
Establish programs to evaluate level of customer satisfaction, both from the perspective of agents as well as insureds
Monitor ALAE to make certain that expense dollars are being prudently spent and that they are having a positive impact on indemnity payout
Maintain involvement with CAR and AIB through their claim committees; coordinate activity with respect to audits and other projects
Function as the focal point for Insurance Department Complaints and other complaints that cannot be resolved at the field level
Analyze technical material (case law, legislation, etc.) to determine the impact on claim operations and provide the necessary guidance and assistance to claim office(s)
Analyze procedural/reporting requirements of AIB, CAR and the Insurance Department to determine their impact on claim operations and provide the necessary guidance and assistance to claim office(s) and systems support
Function as a technical resource with respect to coverage interpretation and other technical issues
Develop, in conjunction with systems support, MI which will help us to better understand our business operations
Evaluate technical training needs, develop programs to meet those needs and implement the programs
Follow certain 'high exposure' claims and provide technical guidance and settlement authority
Have direct involvement in claims with substantive extra-contractual exposure; coordinate activity with the law department and/or outside counsel
WORK EXPERIENCE:
10 years experience in property/casualty claim
Supervisory and/or lower level management experience required
Excellent communication and analytical skills
Customer service orientation
Expert technical knowledge required, to include the ability to read and interpret insurance
contract, medical reports, law suits, etc.

4-year degree required; advanced degree preferred
