The Vice President & Actuary serves as the lead financial officer associated with the Schaumburg Customer Service Unit in National Accounts. In this capacity, the incumbent provides financial and technical guidance for 25-35% of our National Accounts business (customers and prospects).  Responsibilities include approval of all underwriting and pricing as well as making pricing decisions in direct negotiations with customers and their intermediaries and serving as the National Accounts liaison to the various financial and product units.  

Principal Accountabilities of Position:
1. Development and final approval of all pricing for new business and renewal for Schaumburg National Accounts prospects and customers.
2. Serve as the lead financial officer associated with a National Accounts office.  In addition to approving all underwriting and pricing, duties include earnings analysis, recommendations for changes to enhance performance, the maintenance of financial discipline within the customer unit ensuring that all financial procedures and guidelines are followed and functioning as the National Accounts liaison with the various financial and product areas.
3. Directly negotiate profitable financial arrangements with customers, prospects and their intermediaries.
4. Develop and train an underwriting staff to handle all aspects of renewal, new business and revision pricing.
5. Authorizes dividends and approves wire transfers as required.
6. Mentor sales, administrative and financial staff on underwriting.

Travel:
Travel time is anticipated to be between 10 and 20%

Officer promotions are subject to board approval which occurs during the 2nd and 4th quarter.

Job Requirements
1. Advanced knowledge of actuarial mathematics and finance.
2. Professional designation preferred (FSA)
3. Advanced knowledge of insurance products (Dental, Life and Disability), Valuation, Pricing, ALM/Hedge and/or Financial Reporting.
4. Understanding of regulations and FASB pronouncements as applied to insurance matters.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Significant underwriting experience, including customers over 25,000 employees.
7. Previous management experience
8. Ability to work under pressure.
9. Previous experience working directly with brokers and customers
10. Ability to quickly interpret financial information
11. Effectively communicate in layperson terms the underwriting results
12. Extensive knowledge of PC software (e.g. spreadsheets, Access, etc.)
13. Graduate or undergraduate degree/major in computer, mathematics or related field.
