PURPOSE: The Vertical Marketing Manager is responsible for market and opportunity analysis of specific nonprofit and government target markets. This position works with customers, potential customer and industry influential’s to capture and analyze market information and trends, reporting market problems and opportunities that are pervasive, urgent and potentially profitable. The vertical market manager identifies and monitors competitors and its impact on our business solutions and attainment of corporate objectives. Working with sales management, channel marketing, lead generation, installed base marketing, etc, the vertical market manager will ensure the execution of tactical plans which communicates the organization’s distinctive competence and key market value propositions. This position is responsible for evaluating effectiveness of the organization’s solutions in delivering value to the target markets.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

·          Map needs with target markets and analyze which nonprofit and/or government market segments to proactively pursue. Perform an objective analysis of a potential opportunity to provide a basis for investment. Articulate what was learned in the market and quantify the risk, including financial model.

·          Maintains vigilance over target markets and their moods. Looks for unsolved problems that are pervasive, urgent and that people are willing to pay to solve. Gathers industry expert opinion and quantitative market data for each target market in order to discover problems (unmet needs) and solution validation.

·          Identify competitive offerings in target markets. Review their niche, approach and success. Assess their strengths and weaknesses. Evaluate the presence and relative importance of key product capabilities. Understand why recent evaluators of the products/solutions for target market did and did not buy.

·          Work closely with Product Management and Marketing build a strategy to deliver profitable solutions for the market problems addressed and successful product launches. Work with internal and external marketing functions to ensure marketing initiatives complement and include vertically targeted marketing.

·          Create and maintain relationships with the key influencers in the market. Serve as a thoughtful leader through writing whitepapers and articles and speaking engagements in the identified vertical target markets.

·          Identify value statements that will resonate in target markets in terms of business problems our solutions address. Ensure marketing and sales deliverables convey key value drivers to our target markets.

·          Work with Sales Management to train channel on key market issues and competitive threats in target markets, including the development of vertical sales tools




Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

·          Three years of industry experience working in the specified vertical market (Nonprofit/Fundraising) is a must. Volunteer experience in a leadership role, such as the board, of nonprofit organizations also a plus.

·          Four years of market analyst experience preferred.

·          Two years of experience in product marketing or management a plus.

·          A college degreed is a must – preferably a BA/BS in Marketing and/or Business Administration.

·          Knowledge of marketing principles and practices; strong analytical and statistical skills including knowledge of survey and market research procedures. 

·          Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to develop professional leadership skills.

·          Must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; able to identify how the use of technology can address business needs.

·          Must enjoy spending time and have interest in the nonprofit market to understand their problems.

·          Requires ability to effectively work within cross-functional teams in collaborative environment, identify and partner with stakeholders and internal service providers and to aid in resolution of conflicts that arise.

·          Requires clear understanding of the selling process and cycle.

·          Requires ability to gain in-depth understanding of existing and new market specific solutions and products.

·          Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to multiple conflicting and high impact priorities, continuously prioritize and reprioritize deliverables and to respond to unexpected changes is required.

·          Requires very strong oral and written communication skills, strong listening skills and strong meeting facilitation skills. Presentation skills are strongly desired, published works are a plus.

·          Must be detail oriented with strong problem solving skills and the ability to break business processes into simplified steps.

·          Requires a working knowledge of marketing plans and philosophy. A detailed knowledge of marketing operations, policies and practices. A working knowledge of Sage’s mission, broad strategic directions and strategic resources.

·          Must demonstrate a positive attitude and a commitment to world-class customer service.

·          Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).

        ·          Requires frequent domestic travel (approximately 25% of the time). 
         ·         May require occasional international travel.
