To maximize the savings potential due to Value Methodology (Value Analysis and Value Engineering) activities in the specified facilities, by promoting, facilitating and expediting the use of this methodology, and by monitoring and documenting any resulting cost savings.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for progress of VA/VE savings programs and resulting savings at the specified facilities.

Maintain up to date knowledge of the "State of the Art" in VA/VE theory and practice.

Support all product cost reduction efforts, monitor any changes in product designs or requirements to ensure maximization of value, and initiate potential savings efforts where appropriate.

Select specific projects for VA/VE study, get them approved by management and customers as necessary, and secure team members required to perform the study. Once this is accomplished, facilitate and coordinate the VA/VE studies, and monitor implementation of recommendations.

Assist management in setting annual goals, by proposing potential projects and savings estimates. Report regularly on schedule and progress of ongoing projects, plus actual results of those completed.

Plan and conduct VA/VE training courses to ensure a group of personnel trained in the basics for participation in studies.

Conduct management orientations and briefings as appropriate, and be available for similar briefings in VA/VE for clients.

Work within the SCM organization to involve vendors, suppliers and subcontractors in the VA/VE program. Develop methods of inviting their suggestions for value improvements and a sharing arrangement for those suggestions. Support SCM in any VA/VE oriented change proposal negotiations.

Monitor the implementation of accepted VA/VE proposals to assure maximization of potential benefits.

A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, preferably with an advanced degree in either Engineering or Business.

Equipment / Software Knowledge:
A good technical background in rotating and/or reciprocating machinery, with overall knowledge of the products produced and the processes used in the specified facilities, as needed to determine viable opportunities for savings.

Skills or Work-style Preferred:
Ability to lead and facilitate VA/VE workshops and studies, following the methodology as defined by SAVE International. AVS (Associate Value Specialist) Certification by SAVE International would be useful, and eventually required.
Project Management skills necessary to monitor and expedite implementation of VA/VE Workshop Recommendations at the specified facilities in a timely manner.
Good communication and presentation skills.
Financial/Accounting expertise as needed to determine product costs and the effect of implemented VA/VE recommendations on those costs.

Unique or Special Requirements:
Teams/Committees: facilitator and team member for multiple VA/VE Workshop teams. SCM representative on multiple Development Project Teams.
