The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram, Maine's largest and most prestigious newspaper, has an immediate opening for a systems administrator to manage multiple Unix and Macintosh servers and network security.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This mission-critical position is responsible for supporting the hardware and software used in publishing a newspaper everyday and for maintaining network security. The successful candidate must have proven technical skills, the knowledge necessary to troubleshoot network and server issues, the ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment, and the willingness to provide 24x7 support.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Strong Unix Systems Administration experience (minimum of 3 years)
· Strong Sun Solaris hardware support experience (minimum of 3 years)
· Solid Cisco Router and Firewall support experience (minimum of 2 years)
· Solid LAN and WAN experience
· VPN support experience – both Site-to-Site and Remote Client
· Apache Server and IIS support experience
· Working Knowledge of DNS and SMTP
· Perl programming ability, including data base access and CGI
· Veritas Volume Manager experience desired
· Cisco Catalyst switch support experience desired
· Mac OS X Server support experience desired
· Apple Remote Desktop support experience a plus
· Sybase and MySQL experience a plus
· Strong communication and documentation skills
· Ability to train internal staff, work with vendors, and assess new technologies and make product recommendations
