Role: Underwriting Manager Assignment: Large Group Underwriting Location: Louisville, KY Are you a fit? Are you a self-starter and a proven leader? Assignment Capsule As an underwriting manager you will: function as a leader and guide for associates in delivering underwriting services for a specific business segment. You will lead risk management processes and assure both the financial integrity and strategic compatibility of underwriting decisions within the larger business context. Oversee the effective assessment of financial risk by underwriting associates Ensure that underwriting associates understand departmental goals and the role of the department in achieving Humana's business objectives Manage the workflow, procedures and appropriate training and education of the underwriting team Facilitate daily contact with various levels of management, regional sales offices, agents, employers and internal associates across all operational areas Promote high-quality performance by developing and clearly outlining expectations for each associate Key Competencies Builds Human Capital: You deliver current, direct, complete and actionable feedback to associates to support continuous learning and growth; while ensuring that diverse perspectives are widely held, modeled and promoted. By selecting, deploying, developing and rewarding diverse talent, you are able to foster Humana's strategy and meet business requirements. Communication: You actively listen to others to understand their perspective and ensure continuous understanding regardless of communication channel or audience. Implementation/Execution: You are good at organizing and managing multiple priorities and/or projects by using appropriate methodologies and tools. Problem Solving: You are a problem solver with the ability to encourage others in collaborative problem solving. Acting as both a broker and consultant regarding resources, you engage others in problem solving without taking over. Role Essentials Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or a related field Progressive underwriting experience for either a large or small group population Demonstrated supervisory experience Knowledge of Administrative Services Only and Self-Funded processes Role Desirables Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field Reporting Relationships You will have 5-10 direct reports, and you will report to an Underwriting Director. This area is under the leadership of the SVP & Chief Operating Officer.
