Description: Manages for profitability a territory of states comprising approximately $50M in written premium (auto, home and umbrella insurance) by accurately matching rate to risk. Closely interacts with all functional areas across the company especially the Sales, Client Service and Claims departments in effort to achieve financial objectives. Monitors monthly profitability measures such as claim coverage frequency, severity, loss ratio and profile of business written and appropriately initiatives corrective action under guidance of senior staff and management. Directs underwriting decisionmaking and trains Associate Underwriter staff assigned to territory. Exercises underwriting decisionmaking on new business submissions as well as renewals within letter of authority. Completes special projects as assigned by management. Qualifications: Prefer previous personal lines property casualty underwriting experience but will consider candidates with prior property casualty and/or other professional experience (minimum of 3 years) requiring analytical thinking and independent decisionmaking skills. 4 year college graduate, especially in a business or economics related field given the heavy emphasis on profitability analysis within this position, is strongly recommended and preferred. Candidate must be comfortable working in a collaborative team environment and exhibit the ability to train and mentor Associate level staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential to success. Insurance Industry coursework completed and/or willingness to pursue CPCU designation a plus.
