Description: The Undergraduate School of Criminal Justice at Kaplan University is seeking candidates for on-line adjunct faculty positions. The faculty of the Undergraduate School of Criminal Justice strongly supports research and scholarship combined with a teaching ethic that is student supportive. Successful candidates will engage students via an on-line platform that affords the opportunity for synchronous and asynchronous on-line learning. Openings are available for individuals who have experience in the Criminal Justice field, and specifically the use of computer programs in their daily duties. Demonstrated proficiency in the following Microsoft applications: - Word - 97 through Vista - Excel - Power Point Attributes: The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of these three programs, being able to use all three as well as explain the basic workings of each using every day language. A high level of technical proficiency is not desired as it could adversely affect the candidates ability to relate to beginning students. A patient teaching style, and willingness to help the student succeed is also strongly desired. Experience: Experience in the Criminal Justice field, and specifically the use of computer programs in their daily duties. Some examples could include: The use of a computerized records management system which enables report writing from the patrol vehicle, manpower allocation and other budget documents that incorporated Excel, and community presentations, including training sessions, where Power Point would be utilized. The desire is to seek individuals who can use their knowledge of computer programs and software, coupled with their experience in the criminal justice field to explain to students how computers are used on a daily basis in law enforcement, while also assisting students in becoming comfortable in the use of the three primary programs listed. Additional minimum qualifications: - Master's degree in Criminal Justice or closely related area. Five or more years of experience in their area of expertise preferred. Experience in teaching, especially in an online environment highly desirable. - Ability to adapt to being able to effectively communicate with students of different learning styles and dispositions. - College-level teaching experience preferred. - Demonstrated history of scholarship and/or professional service preferred. - Possess a developed appreciation of mastery level learning and critical thinking. - Have a strong commitment to student support, academic success and life-long learning.
