EPRI seeks an entry level project manager, preferably a graduate student with no or little experience but with the potential to grow and develop into a project manager over a number of years in the area of transmission. Who will work with the exiting Transmission Project Managers on-site on individual project tasks (both technical and administrative). As the candidate grows, responsibility for complete projects will be assumed. This would establish a technical transmission and substations team at the Charlotte location.

Job Functions:
Main focus of the position would be in the areas of overhead transmission and underground transmission equipment
Work with current project managers on technical tasks within existing projects
Assume responsibilities with tasks underway at contractor and utility sites
Work with customers to communicate results, provide training and implement results
Develop skills in order to assume responsibility for entire projects in the future
Work as part of a Research & Development project team
Managing and performing specific research tasks as part of individual projects
Helping manage selected projects within the Transmission Programs
Tracking and reporting on project and task progress
Documenting and publishing technical papers, formal reports and software as required
Tracking the financial position of projects and individual tasks
Participate in Task Force and project technical meetings with EPRI members
The skills will need to be developed to perform the following duties as the candidate grows:
Assess and understand customers’ and industry needs
Develop innovative solutions and research projects to address customer’s needs
Negotiating funding and scope of work with EPRI members
Negotiating and managing R&D agreements with contractors
Managing Research and Development projects from inception to completion
In time, take a leadership position is establishing research and supplemental projects
While not critical, skills that would allow the candidate to perform other work within the scope of the Transmission and Distribution Area would be desirable.
Ideal Candidate:
Working experience within a Transmission/Distribution Utility. - Laboratory and research experience
Project Management experience – excellent post-graduate research project management is acceptable
Potential to develop into a Senior Project Manager in Transmission technology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven track record of managing projects
Track record of publishing technical papers
The position demands domestic as well as international travel
