Traffic Department Outsourcing Assistant
Allied Building Stores, Inc. (ABS) is a wholesaler of lumber and building materials. ABS is 100% owned by its 263 Dealer members, each of whom operates an independent retail lumber business or home center in our twelve state service area. ABS neither owns Dealers nor sells lumber or building materials directly to the public. The basic purpose of the company is to serve as a central purchasing agent for its Dealers.
We have an immediate opening for an Outsourcing Assistant in our Traffic Department. This position is an important member of our traffic department team. Their efforts directly contribute to ABS’s ability to effectively coordinate and schedule the movement of freight by third party carriers.
In this fast paced, interesting position, you will be a member of the team responsible for assisting departmental staff to ensure efficient freight movement and cost effective services while complying with DOT regulations.
Duties will include:
Securing reliable third party carriers to move freight in assigned areas. Monitor third party capacity service and network heavily with carriers to achieve maximum efficiency in load placement. Source new carriers to move ABS freight. Verify carriers are in good standing, set up in computer and document insurance coverage and authority to operate. Maintain departmental records; process freight bills; and administrative clerical functions. A high level of customer and vendor interaction.What do you need to be successful in this job?
2+ years of transportation experience. Previous experience in carrier outsourcing, preferred. Must be committed to Customer Service Must have sound judgment, excellent written/verbal communication skills, be detailed oriented, and self-motivated. Must have strong negotiation skills and sound financial judgment. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and work in fast paced environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and other windows applications.What’s in it for you?
