Functioning under general supervision in accordance with established policies/procedures, provides independent intra-op and post-op technical support in response to inquiries from physicians, health care professionals, patients and field staff using professional knowledge and judgment. This level of the Technical Service Engineer (TSE) provides the technical interface between the medical community and the various ANS departments through consultation. Work requires the application of theoretical principles and creative/analytical techniques typically acquired in a recognized four-year or more biomedical engineering or other medical-related academic course of study. Identifies and routinely uses the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness. Stays abreast of and consults on technical advancements. Promotes the process of continuous quality improvement and risk management, and coordinates solutions for technical and project issues. Exercises judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and reports status.
Major On-Going Responsibilities:
· Provides technical assistance (via phone and written correspondence) to customers in response to inquiries/reports from the field about any implantable or external ANS products.
· Provides technical support services.
· Documents all product issues via an approved quality tracking system in accordance with regulatory requirements and ANS guidelines.
· Act as liason between field/medical community and engineering/regulatory/quality departments to investigate and resolve issues.
· Remain current on new technology and product developments.
· Will be required to work some weekends, holidays, and after-hours to answer customer calls on an on-call, rotating schedule.
Experience & Training:
· Bachelor's degree, preferably a B.S. in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
· Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills
· Ability to understand and explain engineering principals and terminology
· Ability to understand and explain neuroanatomy, physiological principals and terminology
· Ability to apply creative/analytical techniques to resolve complex issues
· Ability to work cohesively in a team environment
· Passion to deliver exceptional customer service with an appropriate sense of urgency
· Proficiency in the following Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, and Excel
· Possession of patience, compassion, and strong organizational skills
· Must be able to multi-task and work independently
· Must be able to type at least 50 WPM
