Description: Job Summary:
Server Virtualization is driving a fundamental rearchitecting of IT infrastructure. NetApp is passionate about bringing a full suite of products to market and to continue its leadership position for storage for virtualized server environments and is seeking a highly motivated technical leader to own and direct significant part of our server virtualization strategy and development effort.
As a Technical Director of Server Virtualization you provide a strong leadership and consultative role to software development and QA teams across all of Engineering as well as all of NetApps business units. This includes responsibility for enhancements to existing products as well as new product development. The main focus will be on VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer.
Essential Functions:
A major part of your responsibility will be to work on issues that impact server virtualization success on existing products as well as future concepts, products or technologies.
- This individual will provide future virtualization technical vision and architectural design to the core software development teams.
- Be an advocate and driver of virtualization best practices across all NetApp software development teams.
- Work with cross-functional teams to help improve the engineering processes for developing, testing, releasing & supporting the products to meet the requirements for successful deployment in the fast growing server virtualization space.
- Successfully negotiate strategic and other issues which affect the business internally and externally.
- Must be a seasoned communicator and presenter.
- Maintain affiliations and relationships with academic and industry technical experts globally and serve as an external spokesperson for the company.
- Provide leadership and guidance to senior engineers.
- Evaluate technical partnership opportunities with 3rd party ISVs in the Server Virtualization and Grid Management space
Education & Experience:- A minimum of 15+ years of experience is required. - A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required. A Master Degree or PhD is preferred.- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, extremely complex virtualization projects is a plus. Qualifications: Requirements:
- Excellent understanding of server virtualization technologies, especially VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Xen.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, particularly presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and senior professionals across functions; and have strong influencing and leadership skills.
- Recognized expert in software design and development.
- A strong understanding of the most complex concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.
- Ability to influence the development of strategic project plans and schedules for complex projects or new product developments.
- Storage understanding is a plus.
