Are you passionate about building and designing scalable, high performance software systems? Do you enjoy building systems that deliver tangible business goals? Are your communication skills, both written and verbal something you are really proud of? Are you experienced with n-tier systems and do you love solving distributed problems? The Affiliate engineering team, part of Yahoo! Sponsored Search, is looking for one such experienced and motivated software engineer intern. You will be working to scale the existing search monetization serving systems and solving several performance, design, and architecture problems working closely with other teams.

Yahoo! Sponsored Search system consists of several robust, high performance applications running on multi-node UNIX clusters. We process millions of queries per day. It is a complex system that provides opportunities for innovation and problem solving! Developing for this infrastructure presents many technical challenges in the areas of distributed computing, multi-terabyte storage systems, and high-performance computing. It calls for the application of knowledge of software design principles, systems programming, algorithms and data structures The focus is on building and enhancing scalable systems and modular software; measurement, optimization, the tuning of system performance and ensuring that the software will run reliably and is fault-tolerant in a 24/7 production environment

The candidate should be able to scope and define undefined problems using intuition, common sense, relevant data, strong academic knowledge of Computer Science (algorithms, data structures, etc), and software development experience.

Responsibilities
• Projects include developing core components and tools with Sponsored Search Serving Affiliate Team including scalable system design, high performance computing, distributed computing, performance analysis and tools development.

Requirements
• MS/PhD in CS or other relevant discipline.
• 5+ years of software development experience
• Strong systems programming background with Linux/Unix environment. Multi-process, networking, distributed computing, performance analysis and optimization experience highly desirable.
• Experience designing and architecting clustered, high performance systems
• Experience with Apache and mod perl.
• Excellent in C/C++ , Perl scripting language
• Solid object oriented programming experience
• Excellent communication skills.
