Position Summary:

Responsible for directing all aspects of sales/use/telecommunications tax compliance including audit functions, personal property tax, unclaimed property and business licensing.  Will teach and communicate transaction tax to the broader Finance organization and will work across departmental lines to articulate, develop and implement practical controls to encourage and enforce compliance.  Accountable for timely and accurate completion of transaction tax compliance.  Responsible for all communications with auditors, PPT assessors and business licensing authorities.  Responsible for tax planning initiatives and maintenance of Vertex platform.  Responsible for administration of the Company’s captive leasing subsidiary and Nevada billing subsidiary.

 
Individual will understand complex transaction tax strategies and will have a strong finance, transaction tax and tax accounting background with experience in working in all aspects of tax, compliance and reporting.  Individual will have strong communication skills and work well in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of sales/use/telecommunications tax compliance and ensure returns are correct and timely.  Manage the development of systems to capture information necessary for compliance.Perform advanced tax research and provide recommendations to management.Oversee the reconciliation of tax accounts.  Manage calculation of transaction tax accounting reserves. Communicate, track, monitor and manage the execution of sales tax holiday requirements, tax changes, rate changes and tax notices.Responsible for meeting with business owners/business units to understand business requirements and translate that into tax requirements necessary to calculate, report and remit tax to the proper jurisdictions.Provide guidance to Finance staff related to financial analysis, transaction tax research, compliance and reporting requirements.  Perform analysis to ensure items are taxed properly.Maintain and update taxability matrixes.Review SKUs for proper tax assignment.Manage sales and use tax audits and controversies with the objective of reducing audit assessments.

 
Skills and Experience:

Minimum 10 years state and local sales and telecom tax experienceExperience filing state and local sales and telecom tax returnsExperience filing corporate and sales tax registrationsFamiliarity with Vertex or other 3rd party tax processing softwareFamiliarity with Tax Partners or other 3rd party remittance processorsAccounting or Finance degree; CPA preferred
