A major financial company, located in New York, NY, is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager. They are seeking a highly motivated individual to manage their System Engineering Group which is responsible for all server platforms including Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, Sun Microsystems Solaris, and VMware VI3. The ideal candidate should possess a motivating passion for technology and must remain up to date with advancements in technology and be able to accurately predict trends. This individual will be responsible for managing a team of 8-10 technology professionals with varying skill sets and levels of experience. The primary responsibilities of the System Engineering Team are to provide solutions that enable our client's businesses and provide strategic direction to other technology areas. The team's time is primarily consumed with project and solution delivery; however System Engineering does provide third-tier support when required. As in any heterogeneous environment, the integration of disparate systems yields interesting and challenging projects in which the selected candidate must have a broad breadth of technical experience to allow them to break down these types initiatives to ensure successful solutions. The Manager will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle from design and integration through implementation. They must deliver both design and operational documentation and complete a turnover to the Technology Operations team for ongoing maintenance and support. Management required skills include: Must have 5+ years of experience actively managing staff with experience working on IT financials to include budgeting, cost allocation, and procurement Strong communication and presentation skills Must have a Diverse Operating System experience including Microsoft Windows Server (2000, 2003, and 2008), SUN Microsystems Solaris (8, 9, and 10), and Red Hat Linux (3, 4, and 5) Must be able to manage the enterprise build infrastructures as well as software distribution and patch management solutions Practical knowledge of Virtualization Technologies and the application of these technologies in a production environment is necessary (VMware is strongly preferred) Application virtualization with Citrix Presentation Server and/or Microsoft Terminal Services Professional software development experience in a distributed computing environment (Windows or UNIX/Linux preferred) Strong knowledge of regulatory and audit requirements governing system controls Functions should include, but should not be limited to; Sarbanes-Oxley and SAS Desired Skills: Strong knowledge of infrastructure technologies to include Enterprise back-up (Veritas NetBackup), Enterprise storage (EMC, NetApp), DNS (INS IP Control), E-Mail (Microsoft Exchange, Postfix, and Cisco IronPort), High Performance Computing (Platform Computing, Microsoft CCS, and Data Synapse) Clustering technologies (Microsoft, Veritas Cluster Server, and EMC AutoStart) Network devices and protocols (Cisco routers and switches and TCP/IP) Security devices (CheckPoint and Juniper firewalls, Cisco VPN, and Juniper SSL VPN) Strong scripting skills (VBScript, PowerShell, Perl, UNIX Shell, Php, and Python) Strong project management experience (Microsoft Project strongly preferred) Relational Database Management Systems (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase) Desktop virtualization (VMware VDI)
