JOB DESCRIPTION

Performance Engineer will troubleshoot performance issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic methodologies. Will assist in monitoring and diagnosing capacity of systems, networks and hardware. Candidate will have the ability to advise and assist Architecture, Application Development, Performance Test Engineers, and Production Support teams on performance tuning and help to design, deploy, and implement appropriate diagnostics, and problem resolution tools.

Job Requirements Previous experience with high level systems support and monitoring for system performance Experience with supporting production systems within an operations environment supporting Windows and UNIX systems Previous experience with systems and application performance engineering support for the IBM, Sun Solaris platform and Microsoft Windows servers. Knowledge of DHCP, DNS, HTTP/S, HTML, POP, SMTP, LDAP, SNMP, TCP/IP protocols, Internet routing and firewalls, security, and network devices. Knowledge of switching, routing and load balancing systems, and an understanding of web hosting systems and LAN/WAN networking technologies. Experience with network devices and topologies including experience with network and systems monitoring, Experience with computer hardware utilizing the Microsoft Windows and UNIX operating systems Experience with Java profiler and/or monitoring tools, including but not limited to HP/Mercury LoadRunner, Wily Introscope, JProbe, JProfiler, or similar tools Knowledge of application servers, including connection pools, resource mapping, clustering and server topologies, Experience monitoring and diagnosing application performance and/or configuration issues Knowledge of Java Virtual Machine including class loading, threads, synchronization and garbage collection Experience interfacing with other teams outside of development such as configuration management, DBA's, project managers, Software Testing and network operations staff. Experience with SQL and Perl programming desired. The candidate must be a team player, with an inherent ability to work well under tight timelines, and have strong problem-solving capabilities. Job Functions:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:

Contributes to the overall systems engineering strategy Participate in system capacity planning, monitoring and analysis to ensure appropriate growth and evolution of the systems. Participate in performance testing, analysis and configuration of assorted system hardware and software for purposes of tuning, failure analysis and modeling. Participate in analyzes and performance tuning of strategic Internet applications. Resolve system performance problems Provides technical support to key technical staff Implement new and current technologies for monitoring capacity and performance within the production environment Preferred Qualifications: Experience with load generation tools such as HP/Mercury LoadRunner Experience with test-driven development methodologies Knowledge of profiling interfaces Database tuning and query optimization Strong ability to communicate with both tech and non-tech folks Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent training, education and experience

Systems Engineer V - Typically requires a Bachelor's and 8+ years of directly related experience. Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to the development of innovative principles and ideas. Expert knowledge of programming and systems analysis and related applications.
