Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the requirements, design, test, and implementation of enterprise wide desktop, small system (intel-based servers), mid-range system (AS400, RS6000), or large system (Tandem) infrastructure services. Participates in consulting services, project management, operating system evaluation, system capacity and performance, configuration management, security, automated monitoring/alerting, disaster recovery, and establishment of enterprise standards. Assists with the development of operational support documentation for the system hardware and software to be supported, monitored, and administered by the Operations department. Working knowledge of all hardware and software that supports the enterprise. Provides efficient and effective systems to furnish healthcare providers with the information to deliver top quality health care by working with the Director IT Design, Manager Infrastructure Design, the Operations department Director and Managers, other IT management and staff, and external entities. Excellent communications skills will be used to keep all key entities informed of project progress and ongoing support of the system. Responsible for supplying input for policies and procedures for the enterprise.
Qualifications/Experience:
Minimum of two years experience in system infrastructure design and implementation. Extensive knowledge and experience with network operating systems, desktop hardware and software, server hardware and software, server based application deployment, enterprise storage and backup, high availability, and system security. Knowledge of healthcare industry systems preferred. Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment is crucial. Understands computer system functionality, limitations, and architecture of supported applications. Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures. System Design Engineer Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science. Equivalent education and work experience will be accepted only if previous experience applies to specific systems. Advanced industry specific training and certification preferred.4+ Years experience Building and Implementing Windows 2003 Servers required.4+ Years experience Implementing Citrix 4.0 /4.5 servers required.Experience working in an Enterprise Environment with 300+ Intel Servers.2+ Years of experience with VMware 2.5/3.0 helpful.Experience with IBM hardware is a plus.Iowa Health Systems is an Equal Opportunity Employer
