Job Summary
Responsible for the monitoring, trouble-shooting and administering mainframe operating system software. Develop and administer project plans related to OS upgrades, backups and installation of new applications. Report software maintenance / production issues to senior management. Consult with technical management on software changes to the systems. Lead data center moves/upgrades/migrations. Implement security standards in regard to SOX and CISP compliance. Develop, document and support disaster recovery plans and lead DR testing. Coordinate problem management or scheduled changes with operators, business users and other IT areas. Research, recommend and implement new technologies, giving consideration to hardware, software and concepts. Optimize these technology elements to gain an advantage in efficiency and cost. Attend meetings and interact regularly with management, clients, and peers to continuously improve IT services. Respond to customer / technical issues 24X7, as assigned.
Essential Functions & Job REQUIREMENTS
· OS/390 (or z/OS) installation, maintenance, and problem diagnosis. Includes production support issues and enhancements.
· Evaluate request for information for SOX and CISP audits regarding the operating system, DASD, RACF, and system access standards. Communicate to senior staff any potential gaps in security procedures.
· Define, setup and manage production and test CICS regions / LPARS. Implement security measures to provide access to only authorized users.
· JCL, ISPF, and TSO/E proficiency. Train IT staff in new techniques when they are released.
· Develop a disaster recovery plan for the IT area – operating system and business applications. Work in conjunction with the computer operations, networking area and business areas to develop a business continuity plan. Communicate plan to senior staff when requested.
· Expert knowledge of security software packages (RACF).
· Serve as single point of contact for management of DASD (mainframe and AIX). Provide senior management information on current and future needs of DASD / computing capability.
· Configure DASD / Resource Management software tools (TSM).
· Expert knowledge of mainframe performance tools (MainView).
· Install, configure and manage Tape Management software package.
· Manage configuration control / source management packages (SCLM).
· Manage system scheduler software packages (Control-M, ECS).
· Install / configure / train IT staff in the use of system applications or tools (DumpMaster, $AVRS, FileAid).
· Evaluate vendor software / hardware and be a key part of the decision team on packages / hardware to purchase or lease.
Education:
B.S. or B.A. from an accredited school or appropriate related job experience.
Experience:
Five to seven years system development experience, with at least three years experience in a related business and technical environment.
Other Information:
This position requires 24 x 7 coverage and includes use of a pager.
