Headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio, NewPage Corporation is the largest printing paper manufacturer in North America, based on production capacity with more than $4.3 billion in pro forma net sales for the last twelve months ended September 30, 2007. The company’s product portfolio is the broadest in North America and includes coated freesheet, coated groundwood, supercalendered and specialty papers. These papers are used for corporate collateral, high-end advertising brochures, magazines, catalogs, books, coupons, inserts, packaging applications and direct mail advertising.
NewPage owns a total of 12 paper mills operating 26 paper machines located in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nova Scotia, and Wisconsin. These mills have a total annual production capacity of approximately 5.5 million tons of paper, including 4.3 million tons of coated paper, 920,000 tons of uncoated paper and 300,000 tons of specialty paper, as well as approximately 3.2 million tons of pulp.
Strategy Analyst
The core responsibilities for this position are centered on mergers & acquisitions, market research, data gathering, analysis and the reporting of industry and competitive statistics.
Key Responsibilities:
▪ Contribute to the overall strategy effort, taking responsibility for strategy projects as needed to support corporate strategy development and implementation, including M&A and other special projects.
▪ Develop and maintain an insightful understanding of competitor behaviors, marketplace dynamics, pricing segmentation and cost level analysis. Perform practical, action oriented, & comprehensive data analysis in support of strategic business initiatives
▪ Analyze business problems and develop insights into root causes and improvement opportunities. Develop practical solutions for a steady stream of business challenges and opportunities.
▪ Support key cross-functional initiatives. Work collaboratively with various departments across the organization to find answers to core strategic issues. Assist teams across the organization as these initiatives are implemented.
▪ Monitor ongoing and ad hoc internal and external events. Provide ad hoc business and competitive intelligence and insights for key senior executives: e.g. competitive information, market situation, gas prices, mergers & acquisitions impacts.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience :
▪ Bachelor’s Degree with 0 to 3 years experience in financial analysis
▪ The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills and a bias towards exploring business. Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required.
