JOB SUMMARY:

The Storage Engineer works as the technical lead for all centralized storage at the CLIENT. The engineer maintains and enhances the CLIENT dynamic NAS/SAN (NetApps) infrastructure. In addition, they manage the design and configuration of Veritas Netbackup. In all, the engineer is responsible for a shared storage infrastructure of 50 terabytes of on-line storage and 40+ terabytes (and growing) of tape libraries. They serve as the technical lead for translating storage requirements into actionable storage infrastructure. The engineer serves a critical link between systems administration operation staff and architecture staffs in carrying out storage design work.


JOB DUTIES:

-- Define, design, enhance and maintain a high growth storage environment consisting of NAS in a high availability, mission critical environment.

-- Works with support organizations to identify storage infrastructure enhancements.

-- Coordinate with engineering, architecture and supports teams.

-- Evaluate and integrate vendor systems, management, and monitoring solutions.

-- Integrate, test, and certify all storage architectural standards.

-- Design, and enhance backup and recovery architecture.

-- Train support personal as required.

-- Coordinate and/or lead audits of process compliance for critical storage processes by other team members.

-- Provide second and third level support for all storage infrastructure elements.


QUALIFICATIONS:

-- General all-around knowledge of data center disciplines – computer operations, technical support, network infrastructure, database administration, and application programming.

-- Experience with backup technologies; specifically Veritas NetBackup in a large scale environment.

-- Experience with NAS, specifically Network Appliance, CIFS and NFS in heterogeneous environment consisting of UNIX, Windows, and Linux clients.

-- Experience in Network Appliance data protection technologies: snapshot, SnapMirrow, NDMP backups, SnapDrive, SnapManager for exchange and Oracle.

-- Working knowledge of network protocols, Cisco routers and switches and ISCSI.

-- Demonstrated ability to write both technical and procedural documentation is required.

-- Experience with management tools necessary to manage large storage installations a plus.

-- Experience in either UNIX systems administration or TCP/IP networking are major pluses.

-- Familiarity with emerging storage technologies a plus.
