The successful candidate will facilitate the planning and analysis of next-generation high-throughput sequencing experiments and their applications such as gene expression, medical resequencing, and structural variation profiling studies. Working closely with collaborators and customers of the SOLiD# sequencing system, the candidate will be responsible for designing analysis strategies and tools, developing, maintaining, and operating pipelines for template sequence acquisition, matching, assembly, and analysis of the experimental results. Through interactions with members of the product development, application sequencing, and bioinformatics teams, the candidate will keep up to date the analysis pipelines with the necessary tools and pieces of software needed to process the data. You will identify and automate repetitive informatics tasks to enhance data retrieval, manipulation, analysis, and to ensure the quality of the experimental results. Additional responsibilities include: training customers on their premises, interacting on a regular basis with customers and collaborators with to obtain or provide data; development of presentations depicting the results of analyzes; establishment of standard operating procedures, documentation, and scripts to generate custom reports; integration of diverse third party bioinformatics algorithms; and the application of statistic, visualization and data mining methods. This position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a MSc/PhD degree in Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics, or related field, and 4-7 years of directly related experience in computational biology. To qualify, the candidate must have demonstrated computer skills including proficiency in applying scripting languages (e.g. Perl, BioPerl, Phyton), and/or software programming languages (e.g. C/C++/Java), in common bioinformatics tasks, working in a UNIX/Linux environment. Practical knowledge in the use of genomic databases and the corresponding search algorithms (e.g. Blast, etc.), sequence assembly and finishing tools (e.g. GAP4), and good communication and organization skills are necessary. A good understanding of molecular biology and an appreciation of the use of statistical methods and mathematical models in the interpretation of biological data are highly desirable. Related/biotech industry experience, database development, algorithm development, familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g. MatLab, S-Plus, SAS), and a record of publications, are pluses.
