Essential Job Functions


Providing professional software training programs that have been designed specifically for the Coast Guard's environment. End user training on Microsoft applications will include classroom instruction, one-on-one consulting, workshops and impromptu technical advice. Preparing student training guides, quick reference guides and classroom lab files. Assisting students and end-users with resolution of problems associated with software applications and using software products. Providing ad-hoc technical advice and help-labs (very small groups; short, specific training sessions) to assist student and end users with problems using software products. Maintaining departmental Access database and web site using Microsoft FrontPage 2003. Managing and maintaining computer workstations in a Windows 2003 environment. Marketing, scheduling and coordinating training at other Coast Guard locations. Travel throughout the coastal areas of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii will be required. The Coast Guard contract calls for up to fifty percent travel, however, less than thirty percent is the norm.
Conducts training courses, both on-site and on-line, for the company's applications and systems to include lectures and hands-on sessions.
Works with applicable business unit/area to establish specifications of course, prerequisite skills and knowledge for trainees. Ensures that training courses address all levels of employee. Assists in the design and development of technical training programs and curriculums, both on-site and on-line, for employees on various software and/or hardware applications and systems.
Researches and assists in writing technical and user manuals to support training. Works with engineering, technical support, and/or applicable area to ensure that material is accurate and reflects current product features.
Gathers, reviews and analyzes course evaluations to determine effectiveness of training sessions. Prepares recommendations and reports to senior level personnel and/or management. Implements approved revisions to course materials as necessary to improve training effectiveness.
Reviews, as requested, external training programs to determine feasibility of purchase as requested. Makes recommendations to management as appropriate.
Remains informed of and maintains proficiency with applicable company products.
Works with senior level personnel and business units/technical areas to conduct needs assessments to ensure training needs are met.



Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, engineering or related field preferred
4or more years of technical training experience Advamcedknowledge of the entire Microsoft Office 2003/2007 suite, FrontPage 2003/SharePoint 2007, Visio 2003/2007, Project 2003/2007 and Windows XP/VISTA as well as experience with web page creation and database design. Familiarity with Windows Server 2003 and Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. Adult education principals and classroom instruction concepts. Formal training or education in instructional design practices, adult coursework, certifications or related degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position. Candidates should be skilled in the implementation of adult learning principals in analyzing, designing and evaluating instructor-led, group paced, blended learning design and delivery. Have at least 2 years experience in designing and administering learning programs in a business setting. 4 or mor years experience in computer application instruction with strong software knowledge and trouble shooting skills. Experience working with company software, systems, applications and network products
Experience working with communications practices, principles and procedures for both on-site and on-line presentations
