DISCOVER OPPORTUNITIES!!! We have an immediate need at our location in Rochester, New York for a Sr. Research Engineer. The Sr. Research Engineer develops and conducts both long term and short term research programs in support of the department’s overall activity in development and refinement of finishing technologies. An involvement in interdisciplinary problem solving as part of a team with members of other departments is suggested. Job duties include the following. The key responsibilities of the Sr. Research Engineer are •Ability to perform experiments from planning to execution and analysis of results using optical and analytical instrumentation, laboratory stands, standard and prototype magnetorheological finishing equipment •Plans, conducts, and analyses experiments attributed to fundamental and technological aspects of magnetorheological finishing •Conduct research to develop new and improved finishing manufacturing processes and the process components. •Plans, conducts and analyses experiments and analytical/numerical study attributed to fluid dynamics, magnetorheological fluid rheological and physical chemical properties •Sets up and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments used for testing, process control, product development, and research. •Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of experiment to determine degree of control over variables such as viscosity, pH, temperature, density, specific gravity, flow rate and pressure. •Develop, improve, and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, analytical models. •Documents results of tests and analyses, and write technical reports or prepares graphs and charts. •Compiles and analyzes test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions. •Confer with engineers to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop non-standard tests. •Write technical papers, reports, proposals; and, prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests. •Advise personnel in test procedures for analyzing components and physical properties of materials. •Orders or requisitions parts and materials (some) •Evaluate materials and develop techniques and processes to manufacture materials for use in products that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. •Conduct research into the phases of physical phenomena, develop theories and laws on the basis of observation and experiments, and devise methods to apply laws and theories to industry and other fields. •Write status reports. Experience/Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of CFD Software, Labview Modeling, MathCAD, Lotus Notes, PowerPoint, MS Project software, Internet software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Travel - Occasional travel, domestically or internationally, is currently required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. Education: PhD in Fluid Mechanics or Chemical Engineering with five plus years experience in using non-Newtonian Fluids, Rheology, Physical Chemistry, Colloidal Chemistry, and Material Science or equivalent education and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
