Our client, a successful and highly respected North Carolina based corporation (NOT a bank or financial services institution), seeks a Senior Oracle DBA to join their team of highly experienced and accomplished IT professionals. This is a key position and requires very specific skills. Please review the following carefully.

Job Summary

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the implementation of databases from design of the logical model with-in ERD to the physical design of the specific tables and their layout relationships to each other, and the sizing of all aspects to insure a smooth performance all around.  Also responsible for defining, implementing, supporting and maintaining Oracle database security across the enterprise.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Establish physical database parameters per prescribed standards. Defines database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database to database management system. Trains users, developers, and junior DBA’s in the use of database applications. Responsible for monitoring all databases for approaching limits on all fronts, internal/external access activity, and quality of commands that are executed through the database profiles/security, intra/inter links. Calculates optimum values for database parameters such as the amount of computer memory to be used by the database. Specifies user access level for each instance/schema of one or more data items. Specifies which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by which user(s). Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database. Defines and determines sizing and storage of data files. Implements architecture performance tuning of storage units, performance tuning in the structure of relationships (Normalizing), and performance tuning with stored procedures/functions/objects (Oracle). Develops stored procedures and PL/SQL scripts.

 

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education & Minimum Years Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four year college or university; a minimum of eight years of progressive related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge Requirements:

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret into written form all aspects of the business where a database is needed or may be beneficial and conduct presentations to show customers that related projects can be accomplished efficiently and within budget. Ability to work with all mathematical concepts/algorithms for related equations to be interpreted through Data Manipulative Language (SQL) resulting in expected output for the customer. Ability to define “what the problem is;” then determine what data is needed to clarify the facts to then draw a valid conclusion. Ability to interpret extensive relationships and flows in mathematical or pictorial format and manipulate abstract concepts as means to an end. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the database concepts, practices and procedures. Able to provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist/subject matter expert. Must be familiar with the use of Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD). Must be familiar with the use of table-space sizing, table-space management, table activity determination, warehouse servers, Network interfaces, and stored procedures/functions/objects (Oracle). Is familiar with access to users/schemas/DBA accounts. Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements and maintains company databases.  Identifies data sources; constructs data diagrams; writes code for database access; modifications and constructs stored procedures. 

·         Must be familiar with (Oracle only) networking listener Sqlnet and/or Net8; Name Sever; TNS names; Servers/Instances/Gateways Oracle Names and LDAP.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must be able to work without direct supervision. Can work independently on projects without management assistance.

 

Additional Information:

This position requires 24x7coverage and includes use of a pager/on-call cell phone.
