The Sr. Metallurgical Engineer will coordinate with operations and maintenance personnel to ensure that plant performance is optimized with regard to throughput, recoveries, and product quality, and will conduct audits and verify the performance characteristics of the comminution and flotation circuits. The person in this position will also have responsibility to ensure Kennecott Safety Standards are strictly adhered to, and to continuously promote safety awareness within the mill R/D group. Additional duties include:Coordinate the design and testing of comminution circuit variables to improve performanceDirect the application of metallurgical rigor to quantify plant performance and provide answers to production variancesContinuously evaluate and keep abreast of new technologies for improving plant performance and efficiencyMonitor and ensure that mill consumables (reagents, media) are of the appropriate quality and quantity, to ensure uninterrupted operationsCoach Supervisors to follow Supervisor Behavior Model including how to review trends and prioritization of dealing with problems in the fieldUse Pi Trends to troubleshoot problems, help control room supervisor ensure he/she is operating at max possible tonnage with the best possible recovery, ensure expert system is working to get max possible tonnage, and question DCS people when expert system is not operating optimallyAssist superintendents with monthly budget review preparation and monthly progress updates

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements: B.S. Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering or related fieldSix or more years related metallurgical engineering experience or M.S. degree and four years related metallurgical engineering experience is prefferedExperience with expert control in the area of comminution (especially Metso’s OCS expert system software) is highly desired
