This position will provide the technical leadership in the Innovation function across all phases of assessment, design, development and pilot support. The position will be responsible for creating the technical vision for the innovation-related proof-of-concepts, and will oversee the technical implementation of the pilots for the innovation team. This role will need to have a clear understanding of the Harrah's core IT systems, capabilities, and architectural direction, so as to ensure that the innovation pilots are architected in a manner to be consistent with the core IT roadmap and yet capable of being piloted and tested in a rapid, nimble manner for the innovation function. This position will help shape and form the architectural roadmap for Harrah's IT, working in concert with IT to design and push the envelope as it relates to architectural direction, capabilities and platforms. This position must maintain knowledge of our existing internal core systems, gaming industry standards, technology industry standards and trends, and consumer oriented technology and trends and be able to apply that knowledge into innovation projects. This position will at times be required to develop database schemas, working code and applications, technical proof of concept systems and network environments independently as well as a team.
Define the technical vision and roadmap for innovation pilots & proof-of-concepts vis-a-vis the overall core IT architecture and systems. Design the overall technical approach to innovation pilots, keeping in context the need to rapidly pilot new solutions while maintaining future compatibility with the core IT systems & capabilities. Provide project leadership in all phases of proof-of-concept design, development and support. Prepare high-level project estimates for business case analysis. Establish goals/ objectives for the project and accurately estimate resources required to complete tasks and objectives. Create accurate estimates on large, complex projects to an acceptable variance level based upon the detail of scope known, clearly documenting assumptions. Prepare strategic plans, task development, estimates, work plans, project working papers, project schedules and reports for management. Provide quality assurance and leadership in solving system problems and designing system enhancements. Lead in key project deliverables; provide proactive consulting to IT and Innovation teams. Help articulate and support key architectural and technical objectives through project teams and provide a focused, accessible body of knowledge and historical/ directional perspective on various IT systems and resources.
Understand key cost elements related to the delivery of Innovation pilots & POC's. Seek methods to optimize performance, reduce costs and improve service levels. Formulate systems scope and objectives; provide high level estimates on complex systems. Provide functional leadership with the Innovation team to ensure that complex implementations and integrations of databases, systems, operating systems, networks and vendor software are successful and tested end-to-end. Provide leadership support for problem resolution. Maintain knowledge of our existing core systems and determine the best practices for integrating new technologies into our existing environment. Maintain current knowledge of gaming industry specific standards and direct internal and external projects towards the adherence to those standards. Plan and manage a large team and multiple projects (8+). Foresee resource requirements and analyze/ mitigate associated risk at the department/ project or organization level. Facilitate transition of successful innovation projects to IT or Property operations. In-depth knowledge of project control and project management techniques, including development of detail project plans and techniques for management and follow-up. In-depth knowledge of structured programming and design techniques; thorough understanding of database design and applications.
10+ years experience developing web-based applications. Strong knowledge of Internet/ web technologies and languages, such as web browsers, HTTP, HTML and Javascript. Knowledge of one scripting language, such as Perl, Python or PHP. Knowledge of SQL and relational database structures. Experience with Unix/ Linux environments and Micro-based platforms. Experience programming in Java, C++, C# or Objective C.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering required. Master's degree preferred. Extensive training in technical disciplines, systems programming, systems analysis, computer technology, telecommunication theory and technology and electronic hardware and software required.
