Reports To: Manager / Director, Healthcare Economics
Manages: Position may require the management of related analytical staff positions.
Openings: 2 - (Rockville, MD and Trumbull, CT)
Purpose: Perform high level financial/actuarial analyses for the United Healthcare business segment as part of the national Healthcare Economics team. Provide business planning guidance through the use of data/analysis to promote information-based decision-making throughout the organization in support of growth and profitability goals.
Key Areas of Accountability: 1. Proactively identify, communicate, and lead organizational dialogue related to healthcare cost/trend opportunities and risks throughout the organization. 2. Design and develop sound data-based tools and applications necessary to efficiently measure, monitor, and/or forecast United Healthcare’s medical cost structure.3. Promote idea generation in support of organizational heathcare cost reduction strategies. 4. Support the Regional medical cost planning and budgeting process.5. Provide actuarial/analytical support to regional pricing & underwriting teams.6. Provide management with unbiased advise and opinion regarding medical cost strategy.7. Build strong inter-dependent relationships within the organization as appropriate, including finance, network pricing, product pricing, underwriting, and clinical operations functional areas.8. Perform other related projects and analyses as necessary.9. Select, develop, and appraise staff as appropriate.
Technical Experience and Skill Requirements: 1. Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Mathematics/Finance/Actuarial Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Actuarial designation a plus.2. 3-6 years of previous experience in actuarial and/or financial data analysis required. Includes at least 3 years of managed healthcare analytics experience or equivalent.3. Experience with the practical uses and applications of healthcare data.4. Excellent quantitative, problem solving and analytical skills.5. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.6. Ability to translate business-driven data needs to technical data/programming team.7. Ability to effectively communicate complex data/ideas to all levels of management.8. Strong project management and organizational skills.9. Strong independent decision-making skills. Converts strategic direction to specific action plans.10. Proficient spreadsheet skills required; familiarity with Microsoft Access or similar software preferred.
