Job description for Sr. Design Engineer

 

1.0  PURPOSE

To establish the responsibilities and activities of the Sr. Design Engineer.

 

2.0  SCOPE

This job description applies to Sr. Design Engineers within MedVenture Technology Corporation Product Development group. 

 

3.0  OUTPUTS & ACTIVITIES

 

3.1 New product design & development

 

·         Lead effort in applying engineering knowledge to the design and development of new products.

·         Lead effort in applying engineering knowledge to existing product changes and enhancements.

·         Perform functions to establish feasibility of concepts and determine specific design inputs and requirements for new products.

·         Provide support and/or perform risk analysis and reliability activities for new and existing products.

·         Provide design support for new and existing products including, but not limited to, solid modeling, specifications and tolerances.

·         Assist and/or perform design verification and validation testing to include protocol development and testing.

·         Lead effort in the intellectual property position of the company via invention and patent applications.

·         Provide mechanical engineering support in the resolution of product complaints and/or safety issues.

·         Responsible for the creation of all component and assemblies.

·         Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies in the medical device industry.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

3.2 Documentation

 

·         Provide proper documentation for design tasks to support FDA Quality System requirements, other regulatory bodies and customer requirements.

·         Ensure all documents meet regulatory requirements.

    

     

      3.3 Project Management

·         Develop and manage project plan for new products as it relates to specific area.

·         Support business development quoting activities.

·         Establish and drive schedule and budget for project(s).

 

 

      3.4 Supervisory Responsibilities

·         Assign work to technicians and temporary employees as needed.

·         Mentor lower level design engineers

·         Oversee and assist in the selection of outside vendors and consultants as required.

·         Provide leadership and direction on project teams as it relates to the design engineering functions.

·         Provide leadership and direction for process improvements.

 

4.0 REQUIREMENTS

 

4.1  Job Experience & Education

 

·         BSME or BSEE and 8 to 14 years experience in Design Engineering.

·         Ability to identify and create unique and innovative designs.

·         Ability to formalize concepts for production fabrication of parts and assemblies.

·         Ability to create detail drawings for production fabrication of parts and assemblies.

·         Knowledge of materials and the characteristics of parts when fabricated from different materials.

·         Knowledge of tooling and process to produce component parts.

·         Understanding of various manufacturing and production monitoring techniques.

·         Ability to use analytical techniques for design verification, problem and root cause analysis.

·          

 

4.2  Physical Demands

 

·         Periodic traveling
