Sr. Design Engineer

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Seeking a Sr. Design Engineer whose responsibility is to design components or a system of components to develop or improve existing products while reducing cost, enhancing performance, or facilitating manufacturing operations. Designs products or systems of diverse/difficult scope and complexity for assigned programs using a variety of engineering principles from mechanical, electrical, packaging, or other engineering disciplines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

-          This position is for a technical specialist as a stress analyst. The analyst will be responsible for the structural integrity of the components analyzed.

-          The analyst will perform FEA of aerospace components (hyd. actuators and pumps; pneumatic valves; fuel valves, pumps and inerting systems). Also, the analyst will conduct manual hand stress calculations to validate the adequacy of the FEA.

-          Close interaction with design and project engineers. The position requires the analyst to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The analyst must be capable of multi-tasking to achieve team objectives.

-          Make recommendations for design enhancements based on sound analytical principles and knowledge.

-          Write technical reports to document the approach, structural integrity, and validation between test and analysis. Technical presentations are required      

REQUIREMENTS

-            B.S. (M.S. preferred) in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering

-            Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through six or more years of related experience

-            Structural/Stress background in FEA (ANSYS, LS-DYNA or COSMOS) and able to perform manual hand calculations for validation. (Deflection, Static, Buckling, Random Vibration, Harmonic, Thermal, Nonlinear Plastic and Contact)

-            Sound knowledge of material attributes (stress-strain, design allowable, and fatigue & fracture characteristics). Experience in damage tolerance/fracture mechanics is preferable.

-            3D modeling experience with CATIA v5, Pro/E Wildfire or SolidWorks to develop structural models for analysis

-            Highly motivated and able to work in a team environment. Also, candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills
