SOFTWARE ENGINEER – ROCKVILLE, MD

 

Adaptive Methods, www.adaptivemethods.com, headquartered in Virginia with offices in Maryland, Tennessee and Florida, is a developer of advanced sensor processing and computing architecture products for surveillance, security and military combat systems.  We are a privately-owned defense contractor, which, in partnership with the federal government, addresses critical U.S. Navy Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) needs.

 

Software engineer in our Rockville, MD office to design, develop, test, integrate, and support software for a modern Navy sonar development program that provides high data rate scalable recorder technology interfacing with sonar, radar and navigation systems.  The recorder system will be deployed on naval surface combatants (DDG/LCS/DDX) for the capture of data and will be installed in various contractor facilities to support system level playback.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

a) Design, develop, and maintain computer system software in accordance with approved software design documents for inclusion into Adaptive Methods’ commercial and military products.

b) Perform other duties as assigned by program managers, or senior officers and directors.

c) Assist in performing preliminary program design and analysis to facilitate the conversion of programming requirements into computer language routines.  Assist in the definition of the applications program and verify system specifications have been met.  Prepare block diagrams and flow charts depicting how the system software will function within the constraints of the hardware.

d) Participate in software implementation, programming, test, and integration.

e) Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art software systems in order to advance programming techniques and to develop improved programming efficiency.

 

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

a) Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

b) 0-2 years experience in software development and programming.

c) Experience with the Linux operating system environment and using open source tools.

d) Essential skills:  Proficiency in C/C++ and Java coding experience.

e) Ability to communicate technical solutions to project management and the rest of the development team.

f) Good verbal and written communications skills.

g) Ability to travel as required.

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

a) Experience with open architecture hardware and software

b) Software development expertise to include object-oriented design and programming, network communication, and user interface development.

c) CORBA software development experience highly desirable.

d) XML, SOAP, WSDL, WebServices experience.

 

Travel will be required to various Adaptive Methods offices as well as client sites.
