The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) seeks to fill a position as SIS Training Manager/Technical Writer. The successful candidate in this position manages the planning, organization and deployment of a large-scale, ongoing training effort for all users of the Student Information System (SIS) across campus. SIS is a purchased software package from Oracle (PeopleSoft) with 25,000 or more student users, and 2000 or more faculty and staff users. (S)he will conduct training, documentation, demonstration data set up and testing, and Tier II trouble reporting. (S)he will play a key role in SIS public relations and end user support. Assists in maintaining the OIT web site which hosts online documentation and other training materials for clients that do not attend classes. Works with user offices to develop training curriculum and materials, and reference manuals. Develops and enforces documentation policies and procedures to ensure consistent formatting, documentation, archiving and communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related technical field, with 3-5 years relevant experience with technical writing and documentation Or Associate degree in English, Communications, or related technical field with 5-7 years relevant experience with technical writing and documentation. 1-3 years experience making regular presentations to groups of 12 or more, preferably in a training or teaching context, preferably presenting technical material. Demonstrated excellent writing ability (writing sample required). Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and software, at times without formal training. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently. Demonstrated ability to communicate well both orally and in writing technical and procedural material to a non-technical audience. Expertise with MS Word. 3-5 years experience working in a student service office such as Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, Housing or Admissions or 3-5 years experience with Oracle (PeopleSoft) software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience coordinating a large training effort or similar activity. Expertise in developing and maintaining a Web site, preferably with Dreamweaver. Demonstrated ability to work well in team environments. Experience with Oracle (PeopleSoft) software in a user or customer-support role. Expertise with networked PC’s, Windows 95 and/or Windows NT and Microsoft desktop software. Prefer experience supervising students.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $38,500 - $48,100; Normal Starting Range: $38,500 - $43,300.
