SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Perform safety officer duties and provide supervision to staff to protect life and property against theft, vandalism, misappropriation, fire, flood, or similar disaster on assigned shift in compliance with government and management directives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Serve as supervisor of the department during the shift as assigned.
· Maintain schedules and monitor visitors and reception area.
· Ensure the physical safety of buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment. Maintain log of findings and corrective action taken.
· Train safety/transportation officers in safety procedures.
· Assist in transporting ill or injured as required.
· Assist in reporting and suppressing fires, theft, and vandalism.
· Assist staff and law enforcement personnel in controlling disturbances. Conduct preliminary investigation and submit accident reports.
· Act as liaison with neighboring law enforcement and fire agencies when in charge.
· Perform administrative paperwork, i.e., logs, control sheets, accident reports, and conduct investigations as directed.
· Assure accountability of students, children, staff, and visitor check-in and check-out proceedings by supervising alarm station coverage.
· Maintain vehicles for routine service, clean vehicles, check fluid levels. Perform routine vehicle equipment inspection daily, including lights, brakes, mirrors, steering, and other required operating equipment. Recommend mechanical repairs as needed.
· Operate light trucks, buses, and passenger vehicles; transport passengers and/or packages. Successfully participate in mandatory DOT CDL drug and alcohol testing program. Ensure adherence to established schedules.
· Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
· Transport students to and from center. Perform accountability functions as assigned. Ensure proper student behavior and care of vehicles.
· Cultivate and maintain a climate on center, which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
· Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Promote feedback to members of the Job Corps team.
JOB REQUIREMENTSMandatory:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training with an organized security department or fire fighting organization preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), acceptable driving record, for the State of California.Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
