JHA is a subsidiary of General Re Life Corporation, a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies.  JHA specializes in Disability and Group Life reinsurance and related services.  JHA is located in Portland, Maine.

As a research analyst, this position will be called upon to conduct and manage a number of JHA’s industry studies. This will require working with internal resources to design the questionnaire, solicit participation, collect and clean the data, analyze and report on the results.

As an analyst working on industry studies, this position will be required to run a number of mathematical tests to ensure the validity of the data. This position will also be required to perform a number of industry calculations that will be used in reporting and shared with the general public as proof of the health of the industry.

In addition to working on industry studies, this position will be required to assist on ad hoc primary research (quantitative and qualitative), peer group presentations, and fielding questions from clients. As such, the individual will be asked to assist in questionnaire development, data collection, analysis and writing of the final report.

For ad-hoc research, this position will be asked to assist in running various statistical tests such as correlations, regression, and confidence testing. The individual will be asked to think "creatively" and develop new ways of analyzing the data, interpreting the results and graphically illustrating the findings.

This individual will play a key role in helping to expand and meet our client service offerings.

Experience/Skills Required:

-  A clear understanding of the research process

-  Demonstrated ability to create questionnaires and discussion guides

-  Strong analytical skills

-  Working knowledge of Excel

-  At least some experience with other research programs like SPSS and WinCross a plus

-  Ability to write reports/press releases and desire to learn Quark

-  Comfortable communicating with clients and survey participants

-  Attention to detail and have strong organizational skills

-  Ability to handle multiple projects

-  Creative thinker who welcomes a challenge

-  Comfortable working independently

-  PC application knowledge

Education Required:

- College degree or equivalent
