Job Description

The Senior Health Care Data Analyst’s role within the Health Care Data Analytics group is to analyze health data and produce, verify and interpret client reports with minimal oversight. The Senior Health Care Data Analyst is responsible for performing the analyses of health care data, including medical and pharmacy claims, membership files and Health Coaching interaction, to better understand the quality and level of care delivered and measure the effectiveness of Health Dialog’s services on both clinical quality and financial returns. A Senior Health Care Data Analyst is typically:

·      the Primary Analyst on a single complex[1] client and possibly Secondary Analyst on 1 to 2 moderately complex clients;

·      or the Primary Analyst on special projects or initiatives within the Health Care Analytics group such as Opportunity Analyses and Request for Proposal.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·                 Completing Analytic Projects

o       Designing and implementing SAS code for analytic studies to fulfill internal and external client requests, while maintaining, evaluating, and reporting on recurring analytic studies. Typical analyses include, but are not limited to, utilization, cost and clinical data summary reports.

o       Analytic support in RFP (Request for Proposal) process to scope population(s) in Health Dialog's databases concerning the specific conditions and utilization referenced in the RFP. 

·            Completing ad-hoc projects relating to data investigations, follow-ups on analysis results, or other client requests.

·            Working with colleagues both within the Health Care Data Analytics group and external to the group to translate findings into operational processes and metrics including the development of program assessment metrics, quality-based incentives and public reporting of data.

·            Documenting tasks on a timely and accurate basis including delineation of tasks and estimation of effort. Provide project details and status updates to support project scheduling and workload management by the Team Leader and Manager.

·            Developing, documenting, and communicating concepts, utilities, and processes used within Analytics, while contributing ideas for internal improvements. Specific responsibility for maintaining documentation related to key Health Care Analytics processes, such as but not limited to, our clinical, financial and Health Coach interaction outcomes analyses.

·            Contributing to Health Care Data Analytics projects, internal initiatives, and cross-departmental initiatives.

·            Collaborating with other departments:

o       Support other groups in cross-client and client specific projects from a data perspective. Responsibilities include assisting team in building study protocols, inclusion/exclusion criteria, sampling methods, power analyses, predictive models and defining deliverable requirements.

o       Interact with the Client Program Management department to understand client needs as defined by project requirements. Support the Client Program Management department by attending client meetings when technical expertise is needed.

o       Interact with the Clinical Information Management department to define the client specific business rules, quality control the data produced by the software processing, and document any impacts to its usability in client analytics.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

·            Timely communication and escalation of operational issues to the appropriate resource for resolution.

·            Collaborating with fellow team members on individual tasks.

·            Coaching new employees at the associate or analyst level. Providing oversight on specific tasks, while teaching concepts and skills, to associate team members.

           

Qualifications

·            2-5 years of related experience.

·            Master’s Degree preferably in mathematics, epidemiology, bio-statistics, public health, or other related field, or equivalent experience.

·            Proficient in SAS and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Understanding of  SQL programming.

·            Understanding of healthcare data and key concepts in the Managed Care and Disease Management industries.

·            Ability to analyze and solve complex problems

·            Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

·            Self-motivated individual.

·            Strong work execution, including: ownership of individual tasks and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to provide input into, feedback on, and follow a project schedule.

·            Ability to teach technical concepts, present to small groups, and coach.

·            Solid verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, as well as problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

·            Professional maturity.

 

Travel Requirements:

·            Up to 25% (interoffice travel, possibly some client site related travel).

A complex client is typically characterized by having more than 10 data feeds (possibly updated more than monthly), some portion of data processing may not fit within the standard Health Dialog processing, and analytics studies ranging from descriptive statistics  to regression analysis, as well as trials and sampling.
