The Homeland Protection and Preparedness Business Unit currently has a vacancy for a Senior Environmental Engineer.
Job Description:
Candidate will provide RCRA closure support from SAIC’s Abingdon, MD Office to numerous DoD and commercial clients. Position expected to support the depot and other chemical demilitarization facilities in a variety of tasks related to facility assessments, sampling and analysis, facility demolition, waste management, laboratory/agent monitoring, permit compliance and closure. Task activities will include preparing detailed closure documentation including waste management plan, sample and analysis plan, facility closure plan, waste disposal plan, and other technical closure documents. The candidate will provide technical advice and analysis of waste management data, specific technical reports, plant waste generation, site engineering change proposals, site/plant closure planning, waste processing and management and management and analysis to the local commander and directors. Responsibilities may include task leadership functions, such as cost and schedule tracking and personnel management. Position requires significant coordination with the site BRAC coordinators, SAIC and CMA headquarters on programmatic directives and initiatives in the areas of facility closure and waste management. Additional responsibilities may include developing white papers, technical reports and technical strategies and proposals for competitive bids. Due to Federal contract regulations, U.S. citizenship or permanent resident alien status is required. Travel is anticipated to be between 20 to 35%, primarily to Continental United States locations.
Required Skills:
15 years of experience within clean-up/corrective action, sampling and analysis, base closure and/or hazardous waste management environments such as Chemical Process operations is desired. Chemical demilitarization operations experience is considered a plus. Background should include experience with RCRA regulations and compliance, environmental permit compliance, laboratory operations, air monitoring systems, closure planning and implementation at waste management or military facilities, technical report writing, and environmental assessments. Candidate must be a strong communicator with ability to interface directly with CMA client base concerning technical issues through presentation of ideas in writing, formal presentations, meetings, and informal communications to client’s technical staff and senior management. Candidate must have strong project management, subcontractor management and report writing skills. Individual will be required to pass a medical examination for respirator clearance to allow travel to chemical demilitarization sites. Individual must have the ability to obtain a National Agency Check security clearance.
Desired Skills:
Background in Engineering, Physical Science, or a Life Science Degree is especially beneficial. Experience working with Oregon and/or Utah environmental regulations and the Oregon and/or Utah Department of Environmental Quality is highly desirable. The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, including safety, engineering and chemistry is highly desirable.
Education:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental or in related field.
