Role & Responsibilities:

 

Exa Corporation is seeking candidates for a senior-level applications engineering position in the Driving Dynamics Group, based at the corporate headquarters in Burlington, MA.  This individual will report directly to the Director of Driving Dynamics, and will lead computer-aided engineering (CAE) projects integrating the disciplines of vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics.

 

As a Senior Driving Dynamics Applications Engineer, you will:

 

·         Support strategic vehicle development projects that enhance Exa’s position in the ground transportation market.

·         Lead analysis activities in multi-disciplinary topics combining vehicle aerodynamics with vehicle dynamics and driver response models, with the objective of understanding the impact of aerodynamic loads on the total vehicle static and dynamic response.

·         Perform vehicle dynamics simulation analysis using the MSC.Adams product suite, providing highly responsive engineering insight and problem solving to address our customers’ needs.  These activities include template development, subsystem/assembly model development, scenario/solver control, and post-processing analysis.

·         Perform aerodynamics simulation analysis using Exa’s PowerFLOW product suite, providing highly responsive engineering insight and problem solving to address our customers’ needs.  These activities include geometry preparation, case preparation, simulation administration and control, and post-processing analysis.

·         Utilize additional third-party CAE tools, along with PowerFLOW and Adams, to provide coupled, integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions related to ground transportation.

·         Synthesize alternative design solutions

·         Assist in development of a new CAE product to enable integrated driving dynamics simulation analysis.

·         Prepare technical project proposals, in conjunction with and support of the sales staff and field technical staff.

·         Prepare and deliver high-quality presentation of project analysis results.

·         Assist in mentoring and career development of junior technical personnel.

 

This position will also support Field Offices throughout the company with customer services projects and some pre- and post-sales customer support, with occasional domestic and international travel necessary.

Requirements:

 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills and experience:

 

·         M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, with emphasis in vehicle dynamics, control system, structural dynamics, and/or structural analysis.  A program of study with emphasis on ground vehicles is preferred.

·         Significant experience and demonstrated proficiency using industry-standard CAE tools in the following domains: vehicle dynamics simulation, CFD, FEA, CAD and other geometry tools.  Direct in-depth experience with the MSC.Adams tool suite is preferred.

·         Familiarity with coupling of CAE tools for multi-disciplinary applications.

·         UNIX Skills, script programming, and experience with complex graphics tools.

·         Demonstrated proficiency in applied mathematics in an area such as: numerical methods, real-time data acquisition, signal processing, image manipulation, or spectral analysis.

·         Ground vehicle engineering experience, such as manufacturing, motorsports, or performance testing.

·         Interest and skill in automotive design and engineering.

·         Strong oral communication skills in English and good presentation/teaching skills.

·         Ability to work in a challenging fast-paced environment on multiple customer projects quickly and efficiently, leveraging internal resources at Exa.

·         Strong desire for continuous learning.

·         Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

·         Ability to apply these skills cooperatively in a team of experienced professionals.
